Teacher's Comments from Mrs. Stewart:
My Students: "Until you spread your wings, you'll have no idea how far you can fly." - author unknown.
I feel like I have given my students wings this year. They have started to read fluently and now it is as if they can fly. They want to read anything and everything and they love it!
My students are some of the best kids ever! I am so proud of them. Even though I work with the lower readers in kindergarten, first, and second grade, they come to class excited about what we are going to be reading. We are in a small rural school in Missouri and have a high poverty rate. Even though I know many of my students have difficult home lives, they come to class ready to work. It is almost as if reading really does transport them to another place and time.
My Project: I would love to use these books with my second grade readers. They enjoy reading non-fiction books, which I like because they are learning science and history as well as phonics and comprehension. I would also love to use these books with high-achieving first grade students. Our school is trying hard to offer opportunities for our advanced readers to read books on their level. We have started a "book club" for these students. I believe these books would be great for our advanced readers who love a challenge and who want to learn!
I want my students to be successful and excited about reading and learning. They have the wings, they just need the books to help them soar! The more quality books we get into the hands of our students, the better chance they have of going far in this world.
