This was supposed to be a report on the Holiday Train Show at the New York Botanical Garden. But while I now have photos taken with a much better camera, I can't improve the text on All Aboard: The Holiday Train Show at the New York Botanical Garden from five years ago.
So obviously, I'm going to need another garden related topic. For my next act I put together old flower photos from before my software days to post the ghost of flowers past. A little bit of Photoshop and some of these bargain basement camera shots don't look half bad.
But that doesn't fit the holiday spirit. As you know my garden is a terrace with a strawberry pot and those toy trains are the only public garden show in town. What can I do?
I've got it! Store windows growing out of a concrete jungle, that's garden related. Right?
I truly believe that holiday windows are the perfect topic for garden blogging.
Case in point, Lord & Taylor has a Fairytale Garden.
Okay I'm all out of excuses. here's a peony confetti cannon so Frankenoid doesn't get mad at me.
This year Macy's on Herald Square gets the 2014 Science Award for Christmas windows. They take us on a trip to the planets. A Holiday surprise for Alex and Dog Bella begins with Santa at Mercury.
Then it's off to Venus, where Santa keeps a workshop.
Next stop Mars where Olympus Mons is a big rock candy mountain.
Alex and Santa do some space walk racing around Jupiter and Saturn.
Then go watch the Neptune and Uranus snowball fights.
And then back down to earth, home for the holidays.
Getting fed up with my style of garden blogging yet? Here, take an Iris break and let me know if my beard tickles.
My personal favorite New York Christmas windows, at least since B. Altman's went out of business, is Bergdorf Goodman. They call it "Holiday Windows" because Christmas can be pretty hard to find most years.
I look at it more like an art exhibit with mannequins. The designer, David Hoey picked "Inspiration" as this year's theme. There is literature;
Architecture;
Painting and Drawing;
And Theater;
Need another garden break? Don't worry, flowers are coming soon to a garden near you.
Lord & Taylor usually offers more traditional views. This year's theme is "a journey through the imagination, exploring the whimsical interiors of an enchanted mansion." The mice have taken over at the "Hall of Wisdom."
There's "Christmas Tweetings" where Cardinals are wearing assorted winter caps while enjoying beautiful bird houses and seasonal bird cakes.
And then there's "The Heritage Gallery" features posing pets in picture frames. Some of the dogs, cats and one giraffe are moving pictures that bring the portraits of Hogwarts to mind. In the center mice are already opening Christmas presents.
Another set of classic windows brings us back to Macy's at Thirty-Fourth Street because miracles happen there.
Virginia and company;
Because "Yes, Virginia there is a Santa Claus."
Too cold for you? How about a cactus flower.
The other favorite classic of mine, Sacks Fifth Avenue was too crowded for me to get any photos this year and I didn't do well at the very un-classic Barneys. Those windows are another favorite art expo of mine but it was the live human skater's day off.
I did get to hear Barneys Boom Box blasting.
The owl of truth was telling it like it is.
And I got off a pretty decent self portrait.
As I return to my original goal, A few snaps of the 2014 Holiday Train Show at the New York Botanical Garden.
And my favorite New York City Christmas shot this year.
Well, outside of the Christmas message from Victoria's Secret, that all folks.
Merry Christmas to all and to all a good Saturday Morning Garden Blogging.
